German-English Interpreting for Notarial Appointments, Real Estate, and Selected Corporate Settings
Professional language mediation for legally and commercially sensitive appointments — personal, precise, and grounded in an understanding of legal procedures.
As a sworn translator and experienced language professional, I support notaries, law firms, companies, real estate stakeholders, and international clients in appointments where every detail needs to be understood.
When understanding becomes essential
In notarial appointments, real estate purchase agreements, loan agreements, or important business meetings, approximate understanding is not enough.
These situations involve binding declarations, financial obligations, deadlines, liability issues, and decisions with significant consequences.
Professional interpreting helps ensure that all parties can follow the appointment clearly, completely, and without interpretation or embellishment.
Focus on Notarial Practice
Interpreting for notarial appointments
During a notarial appointment, the deed is read aloud in full in the presence of the parties. As a rule, a German notary reads the document in German.
If, according to the party’s own statement or in the notary’s judgment, a party does not have sufficient command of the German language, Section 16 of the German Notarization Act requires that a sworn interpreter be involved, unless the notary provides the translation or interpretation personally.
This means that interpreting in notarial practice is not merely practical support. It is often part of conducting the notarization in a legally secure manner.
I support clients in particular with:
-
real estate purchase agreements
-
land charge deeds
-
powers of attorney
-
corporate notarizations
-
declarations with an international element
In these settings, linguistic precision is essential — but so is a clear understanding of the procedure, roles, and legal sensitivity of the appointment.
For Buyers and Sellers
Confidence in real estate transactions and financing matters
For international buyers or sellers, a notarial appointment is often one of the most important legal transactions of their lives.
A professional interpreter helps ensure that the parties can genuinely follow the content of the deed, including provisions on the purchase price, payment due date, transfer of possession and benefits and burdens, warranty, rescission, financing, or powers of attorney.
This creates confidence during the appointment and significantly reduces the risk of misunderstandings.
A notarization should not only be formally correct. Its substance must also be understood.
Loan Agreement Support
Confirmation of understanding of the loan agreement
Anyone purchasing real estate will often finance the transaction through a bank. In some cases, the bank may require confirmation that the borrower has understood the German-language loan agreement.
In addition to interpreting at the notarial appointment, I offer a dedicated service for foreign-language borrowers:
I go through the loan agreement with the buyers in detail and may subsequently issue a corresponding confirmation for the bank in my capacity as a sworn language professional.
The meeting can be arranged by appointment — either in Wiesbaden or in a suitable online format.
Corporate Meetings and Governing Bodies
Interpreting for annual general meetings, supervisory board meetings, and European Works Councils
In addition to notarial and real estate-related appointments, I also support selected corporate interpreting assignments.
These include in particular:
-
annual general meetings
-
supervisory board meetings
-
European Works Councils
-
shareholders’ meetings
-
negotiations
-
important client and business meetings
In these settings, discretion, preparation, terminological confidence, and a clear understanding of roles, procedures, and sensitive content are essential.
Types of Interpreting
01.
Simultaneous interpreting
In simultaneous interpreting, spoken language is rendered into the target language almost in real time. Listeners can follow the presentation, discussion, or event live and without delay.
This type of interpreting is particularly suitable for larger events such as annual general meetings, conferences, specialist presentations, or multilingual corporate formats.
Because simultaneous interpreting requires intense concentration, interpreters usually work in pairs for each language combination and alternate at regular intervals.
02.
Consecutive interpreting
In consecutive interpreting, one person first completes a section or thought. The interpreter then orally renders what has been said into the other language.
This type of interpreting is particularly suitable for notarial appointments, client meetings, negotiations, smaller meetings, and business appointments.
Consecutive interpreting enables clear bilingual communication and gives all parties the opportunity to follow the content carefully and ask questions.
03.
Conference Equipment
For larger multilingual events, the right technical setup is just as important as the interpreters themselves.
If required, I can support you through a trusted network of experienced conference technicians in organizing the necessary equipment, such as interpreting booths, headsets, microphones, and audio channels.
This allows interpreting services and technical coordination to be aligned effectively.

Translation or Interpreting?
Interpreting is not translating
Translation is the written transfer of a text from one language to another.
Interpreting is the oral translation of spoken language from one language to another.
Interpreting is always used when international participants need to follow a conversation, lecture, business meeting, notarial deed or negotiation live and accurately.

Are you planning a multilingual appointment?
Please send me your inquiry including the date, location, subject matter, language combination, and preferred type of interpreting.
If you are unsure whether simultaneous or consecutive interpreting is the right format, I will be happy to provide an initial assessment.
